CIEDU AIP Launches International Call for Director

The Association of Public Interest “Centro de Investigación Educativa AIP” (CIEDU AIP), based in Panama’s Ciudad del Saber, has opened an international call for applications for the position of Director. The center seeks a visionary and experienced leader to guide its mission of becoming a regional and national hub of excellence in educational research and innovation.

CIEDU AIP is a public interest association supported by the Panamanian government, committed to conducting high-impact quantitative and qualitative research across all levels of education, from school and university to formal and non-formal learning contexts. Open to both national and international researchers with proven academic productivity and recognition, the Center aims to influence public policy and foster educational transformation through science and evidence-based innovation.

In addition to its research mission, CIEDU AIP promotes human development by encouraging the growth of critical thinking, creativity, emotional intelligence, and resilience—essential capacities for both personal and professional advancement in today’s educational landscape.

 

Who can apply?

Applicants must fulfil the following requirements:

  • Hold a doctoral degree in education, psychology, social sciences, humanities, statistics, or other related areas, with academic training and a professional background in the field of education and research, including scientific publications.
  • Have a solid research trajectory with at least 15 scientific publications in indexed journals, books, or book chapters in the fields of education sciences or human development, as well as verifiable international recognition.
  • Possess a minimum of ten (10) years of proven experience in leadership roles within organizations in the educational, human development, scientific, or academic fields (such as director, department head, or equivalent positions) in public or private institutions (e.g., research centers, think tanks, education-focused companies, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience in scientific administration, including management of research projects and/or training of new scientific talent, with a focus on programs and initiatives of high academic recognition and impact.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning and leadership of high-performance teams.
  • Experience in strategic planning, leading high-performing teams, and securing national and international funding.
  • Demonstrated influence in public policy in the fields of education and human development.
  • Proficiency in both spoken and written Spanish and English.
  • Active participation in national and international academic networks and organizations.
  • Familiarity with educational systems in Latin America and Panama.

 

Main Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development and strategic positioning of the Center to establish it as a national and regional benchmark for excellence in educational research.
  • Maintain an effective working relationship with the Board of Directors to achieve the Center’s goals and report on its progress.
  • Establish and sustain productive relationships with relevant public authorities, social leaders, and international partners.
  • Develop and update operational plans, strategic goals, budgets, and performance projections.
  • Inspire and guide researchers toward excellence, strong teamwork, and international recognition.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, educational innovation, and organizational development.
  • Promote a merit-based culture focused on excellence, measurable results, and institutional commitment.
  • Encourage the creation and strengthening of national and international academic networks.
  • Promote partnerships with public and private institutions.
  • Select and hire the necessary administrative and technical personnel.
  • Promote and facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration and research.
  • Encourage the transfer and application of research findings.
  • Lead the budgeting process and the fundraising strategy.
  • Ensure compliance with the institution’s policies and internal regulations.
  • Align the Center’s work with the National Science, Technology, and Innovation Plan.
  • Promote alliances that integrate human development and well-being initiatives.

 

Required Documents for Pre-Selection Process:
  • Curriculum vitae in Spanish and/or English outlining the candidate’s professional trajectory, clearly demonstrating relevant knowledge, experience, and skills aligned with the required profile.
  • Copies of academic diplomas. Original documents must be available upon request.
  • A personal statement (maximum 1,000 words) explaining the candidate’s motivation for applying to the position of Director, including relevant background, specific interests, and a five-year vision for the future of CIEDU AIP.
  • At least three academic or professional reference letters addressed to the Board of Directors of CIEDU AIP.

 

Reference Salary:

B/. 7,000.00 per month, plus additional benefits negotiable based on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and professional profile.
