Berenike Prem is an interim professor for International Relations and World Society at the University of Bremen, Germany. She holds a PhD from the University of Bremen, where she worked on a research project examining the privatization of security. Her research focuses on evolving practices of warfare, particularly the role of Private Military and Security Companies (PMSCs) and emerging military technologies. She is currently working on a research project on anticipatory norms for emerging weapon technologies, including autonomous weapons systems and military AI. She is the author of Private Military and Security Companies as Legitimate Governors: From Barricades to Boardrooms (Routledge, 2020) and has published in journals such as Global Society and Contemporary Security Policy.
